The Amazing Magic Club

The Amazing Magic Club is an intensive therapy program that combines professional magicians with occupational therapists to hold 10-day “magic clubs”.

The program is for children aged 8 – 16 years who have hemiplegia and promotes the use of both hands. The improved hand function improves social and emotional wellbeing as the child grows into adulthood. The program was designed and developed by the Breathe Arts Health Research(UK)

The Arts Health Institute has bought this program to Australia and presents the wonderful world of astonishing tricks and marvellous magic over school holiday breaks. The Club is two weeks of fun, mystery and illusion with our world-renowned magicians, Bruce Glen and Sam Angelico, teaching these young people how to become magnificent magicians. Friends and family are astonished with the trainee Magicians newfound skills!

Over the workshop we see real magic happen, the occupational therapists have worked alongside specially trained Arts Health Institute accredited magicians to ensure carefully adapted magic tricks and performance skills are used to improve the physical and mental health of these young magicians.

The most common cause of hemiplegia in children is Cerebral Palsy (CP). A child with CP is born every 15 hours is the most common physical childhood disability in Australian. With limited evidence to support the effectiveness of traditional therapies, a new approach to treating children with hemiplegic was developed using six years of research in the United Kingdom through the Breathe Arts Health Research Magic Camps. The Arts Health Institute is the only organisation in Australia providing this program.

This is one of many arts and health programs presented by the Arts Health Institute.

The Arts Health Institute integrates the arts into health care through research, education and national programs. Their innovative and evidence-based programs are designed to foster improved health and wellbeing, promote happiness and joy, and inspire greater social connection.
